How to write awesome Quora Answers that drive traffic

Back at the end of 2018, we wrote an article championing how Quora was an incredible traffic generation site.

You can read the article here – How to drive traffic to your site with Quora

At the time of writing, we shared a screen capture showing just how much our Alexa rating had jumped as a result of using Quora, you can see the screen capture below.

15 months or so later we are sharing our Alexa rating with you again as another screen capture, and as you can see we continue to move in the right direction.

What is impressive with the above screen capture is the rank in the USA.

Now, of course, we do not attribute all of our gains to Quora but there is no doubt that Quora is a site where you should be asking questions in your niche, answering questions in your niche, and sharing your content.

But it is not just a case of just asking and answering questions there is a bit more to it than that.

How you ask questions and how you answer them really does matter when you looking for traffic from Quora.

Again if you are looking for inspiration on how to write great Quora questions that rank on Google and generate traffic then check out our How to write great Quora Questions post.

How to write great Quora Answers – The Rules

When writing great answers there are things that you must do for success and some things that you must avoid at all costs.

Generating traffic by answering Quora questions is a time-consuming traffic generation strategy but when done well produces traffic consistently day in day out.

With each new question, you answer well boosting the amount of traffic you get from Quora but there are rules.

No Spamming

You cannot just write 2 sentences and add a signature link or say something like “I have answered this question here” and then link to your post because you’re going to get pulled up for spam.

And it is not really Quora who is calling you for spam it is the members.

There are a couple of scenarios that can happen when your writing spammy answers

  1. Members downvote your answer and it is collapsed by the Quora bot
  2. Members report your answer as spam and it is collapsed and removed and you are sent a notification for appeal as the answer is then removed

Here is what Quora has to say about spam:

On Quora, spam is defined as one or more questions, answers or posts whose purpose appears to be to direct traffic to external commercial sites while providing little to no value back to the Quora Community.
Note that even if you didn’t intend to ask a spam question, questions that attract primarily spam content may also be deleted because of the spam answers they receive.

How does Quora define spam? What are the consequences of spamming on Quora?

In other words, if you are not really answering the question and linking to your site then your spamming,

Quora doesn’t say that you can’t link out they just want you to give useful, authentic answers and answer the question.

When you are looking to write great Quora answers they have to be exactly that, they have to be great.

Just about all of the problems you will encounter on Quora will be as a result of other members downvoting or reporting you and then almost without question the Quora bot will come along and collapse your answer or just delete it.

So yes your answers have to be great.

In general short one-word answers, one-word sentences will be downvoted and collapsed.

So yes and no answers are just pointless.

If you are going to write short answers you must add in the question as well just to beef up your answer so that you’re not automatically collapsed

so, for example, for the question “how do I write great Quora answers?” you would answer something like

Thanks for the A2A on “how do I write great Quora answers?”

You have to write long informed answers it’s that simple.

Padding out your answer gives you some hope that your answer will not be collapsed.

But if your goal is Quora traffic to your site then answers like this are pointless.

You have to write enough good quality content to justify adding in your link because adding links to short answers are on the fast track to being removed.

Writing killer Quora answers is a form of micro-blogging

This is why generating traffic with Quora is a time-consuming strategy because good answers are basically microblogs.

You have to think like a blogger and compose your content like a blogger.

Headings, text formatting, images, and links all play their part in defining a great answer.

Add in the question title to your answer create paragraphs with subheadings because no one likes great walls of text.

Make it easy for the reader to consume.

Add images that can be used as breaks,(they can then also be shared to Pinterest and alike)

Create something special that readers like and will upvote, you have to create mini blog posts.

When you create and share value the links you add are overlooked.

Writing something meaningful encourages the reader to click through to your site.

Adding links to answers

There are a few ways to add links to answers.

As mentioned before you can just add in a signature at the end.

For example, I would write something like:

Hope this helps.

Regards Dexter

Infobunny

Or you can link into one of your articles as anchor text like this:

It is a good idea to add the Question title into any answers you make in case the question gets merged into another.

When this happens sometimes the answer loses some meaning.

Having added the question title makes a merged answer relevant again

It is also good to note at this point that not every answer needs a link back.

There is value in just answering without looking for traffic.

After all the more followers you can get by just using Quora well the more eyes eventually on your answers and shares.

Be number 1 and answer quickly

Quora ranks answers that questions received so ideally you want your answer to show as number 1 as the best answer to the question.

Anyone landing on a question always checks out the answer that Quora deems as the best.

The further your answer is down the page, the less likely you’re going to get click-throughs because readers tend to focus on the top answer.

Quora also pushes what it considers less valuable answers down the page.

The longer you take to answer the question the less likely you will be to get upvotes and the less likely you are to get a good position on the page

This is because the people interested in the question have visited and already read the answers and had their say by upvoting the answers already there.

You want to avoid playing catch-up.

With that said don’t avoid questions that have already been well answered.

They have proven to be popular for a reason.

Just know you are going to need a really good answer to get a good position on the page.

    Hi Dexter,

Answering questions on Quora is an impressive way of driving traffic to your blog or website. For example, I have not been on the platform for months away, but I’m still getting traffic from Quora. That is the result of the answers I provided already. If my answers were not good enough, I guess nobody would care to click the links to my blog. In some cases, I don’t link to my blog in the answers I write. I only try to link to the most relevant questions.
So yes, providing valuable answers that address the users’ needs is ideal if you want to grow your blog traffic.
Thank you for sharing these insights!

I find Quora a great resource. Not only to answer questions and drive traffic to a site, but in many cases when you are actually searching for information. It does however get tedious at times when you have to respond to some of what I would charitably call idiots.

I discover Quora an incredible asset. Not exclusively to respond to questions and direct people to a site, yet much of the time when you are really scanning for data. It does anyway get repetitive now and again when you need to react to some of what I would beneficently call dolts.

    Hello Dexter,

Great Post. Quora is a platform from which we ask questions and get their respective answer. If we have good knowledge on a specific topic, we can answer the questions and drive traffic from the hyperlink.

I also want to add from my experience how to respond correctly to quora. Read the question carefully.
Read the question details too. Determine in your mind if you know the answer.
Decide if you want to answer it if you know the answer. Click “Reply” and start typing.
Read what you entered and correct spelling mistakes if any. Add or remove words or sentences to improve it.
Give him one more last reading.
Check if you actually answered the question and not just commented on the question.
Check if there are any words that might offend someone.
Don’t mind/retaliate / sarcastically / or belittle the person and their question.
If you did, please delete your answer. Stay up to date with BNBR policies.
    Ignore stupid or stupid questions.
Don’t give a stupid or stupid answer in return. Read your answer one last time and then click Submit.
Visit your response to read the comments, if any, over the next two or three days and respond if necessary.
Don’t worry about looks and objections.
I also advise you to look for videos on YouTube in which experienced users share tips and tricks on writing answers in Quora.
