The best superfoods for weight loss. It is a fact of life that when you get to a certain age you start to gain weight unless of course you are blessed genetically.
The answer to this problem is simple you just have to eat less and move more.
The good news is that if you are a food lover then you don’t really have to eat less if you’re eating the right, healthy foods. You see I’m not a big fan of going on diets.
Diets tend to be punishment for your body and they may work for a short while but you run onto old habits when the diet ends and they do end because they are just not sustainable.
It is just not realistic to eat boiled chicken each day with a spoonful of rice.
Of course, diets do have their place if you have been put on one for medical reasons but if you have a sensible healthy eating plan with exercise built into your routine you have a much better chance of achieving your target weight and living a healthy lifestyle.
Because at the end of the day healthy living is a lifestyle choice and that is why the majority of diets even though they may yield results initially often result in the gaining back some if not all of the weight loss because there is no lifestyle change and you still have your old habits that you fall back into.
But before we get too far in a quick disclaimer
Everything written in this article are my own thoughts and ideas and taken from my own experiences. If you have weight problems or any medical conditions then please do seek out medical advice from your doctor before you follow anything that I say.
Here are 7 superfoods/foods that will help you with healthy weight loss
The everyday apple
Do apples help you lose weight?
You have probably heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”
But can apples help to achieve a healthy weight and keep the pounds away? Absolutely
Apples contain non-digestible compounds that promote the growth of good bacteria in your gut associated with weight loss.
These fiber and polyphenols compounds undergo a fermentation process where they become friendly bacteria.
Friendly bacteria help to balance the bad bacteria that love to feed on any junk food that you eat.
A great side effect of eating apples is that they provide a feeling of fullness that helps you stop the unhealthy snacking.Do apples help you to lose weight?Click To Tweet
Whole eggs are among the best foods you can eat if you are looking for healthy weight loss.
They’re high in protein, contain healthy fats, and can help make you feel full while being low in calories.
But wait aren’t eggs full of cholesterol?
it is true that a medium-sized whole egg contains 186 mg of cholesterol, which is 62% of the recommended daily intake.
But when you eat more foods high in cholesterol your liver produces less cholesterol.
Cholesterol is a substance found naturally in the blood and is essential for maintaining good health and wellbeing and only becomes a problem when the level in your blood rises too high.
If you are fit, healthy and reasonably active then eating whole eggs will not change your cholesterol levels because your liver just produces less and everything just balances out naturally.
However, raised cholesterol can be a common problem and a risk factor in the development of heart disease but this is not caused by eating cholesterol-rich foods.
The bottom line is if you are fit and healthy then there really is no problem eating whole eggs.
If you are at all worried about your cholesterol levels then you should seek medical advice.
For more information about cholesterol I recommend that you can refer to this article
Eggs are a great source of protein
Whole eggs are a great source of protein.
There is 7.5g of protein in a medium egg with around half being found in the egg white. A whole egg also contains 5,1g of fat and 1.4g of saturated fat.
The white of the egg contains lower levels of fat and cholesterol than the yolk so although the egg is a great food for weight loss they can be made even better if you just eat the egg white.
Eggs are great scrambled, poached, boiled and can aid healthy weight loss as part of a healthy eating plan especially if you eat just the white of the egg in something like an egg white omelette then you have a very healthy low calorie option
Omelettes are very easy to cook and you can incorporate lots of other nutritional foods into an omelette.
The best way to cook an omelette is in a good quality non-stick pan. (Amazon Link)
Omelette makers (Amazon Link) are also becoming popular for their ease of use.
The BBC Good Food site has some great omelette recipes that you can check out.
Here is a great one for an Egg White Omelette
Oatmeal is a great superfood and is packed with fibre. It is also a great source of resistant starch.
Resistant starch acts like soluble fibre and escapes digestion.
It digests slowly and helps to suppress your appetite meaning you eat less because you fill full. It also helps accelerate your calorie-burn.
Swapping out just 5% of your daily carbs intake for resistant starch can boost your metabolism by 23%.
And this is why oats are a fantastic healthy food option for breakfast as they really do kickstart your day and hold your appetite until lunch.
But oatmeal is not just restricted to the breakfast table. Whole oats can be used in a whole host of other ways.
You can also use them as an alternative to breadcrumbs.
They can be used to create homemade healthy snack bars, healthy biscuits and can be ground into flour to make a whole host of other healthy treats.
If you need some inspiration you can watch the video below by Erin Clarke. You grab the recipe from her site here
There are many creative ways that you can incorporate these healthy whole grains into your diet.
One way that I like to incorporate them is when I’m short on time. I simply grab 1/3 of a cup of oats, a small handful of pumpkin seeds and a scoop of chocolate protein powder and blitz them with my NutriBullet all into a healthy drink that I can take with me when I’m rushing out the door and on the move.
Oatmeal, when eaten as part of any healthy eating plan, is definitely one of the best superfoods for weight loss.
Bananas help boost your metabolism and fill you up because of their high fibre content.
A banana is a great way to boost energy You often see athletes snacking on bananas particularly Tennis players between games.
They are also a great post-workout snack.
Opt for a banana over an energy bar to ensure that you’re really getting a healthy treat.
Bananas are also known to stop muscle cramps and regulate your blood pressure and help moderate blood sugar levels.
Do bananas help with weight loss?
You can eat both ripe and unripe bananas.
In their unripe form where they are more of a green color, they like oatmeal contain resistant starch.
Along with the pectin (also found in bananas), resistant starch as we now know helps to reduce your appetite and if you are not hungry you don’t snack.
Bananas are another great food for weight loss.
So a good healthy breakfast weight loss option would be banana oatmeal perhaps 😉
