Quora Question Vandalising And How To Deal With It

So in this new article, I wanted to add to my Quora content cluster and talk about Quora Question Vandalising, what it is and how to deal with it.

Quora question vandalising is quite simply when other members take a question have written and just change it, for no good reason really other than they just think they know better.

As well as making bad question changes you will also find that they change the topics and this can be a big problem if you want internal views and if you want to send answer requests for more than the initial day when you publish.

So let’s dig further into this and come with some good answers for you.

So what is Quora Question Vandalising?

Well as we have already mentioned it is when other members take a question have written and just mess it up.

Here is what Quora has to say on Question vandalising.

Quora users are allowed and encouraged to edit questions to make them better – improving clarity, language, grammar, diction, etc.

However, users are not allowed to make edits that are not intended to improve the question; for example, question edits should not be intended to

  1. Insult the original poster of the question.
  2. Make a joke.
  3. Disparage the question itself.

These edits undermine trust in the good faith of the user community and may cause some users to become reluctant to add great content to the site.

Edits should not change the meaning of a question.

Question vandalising also extends into the topics that you select for your questions.

Let’s give you an example.

You write about anime and you select relevant topics for your question.

Then someone comes in and thinks those topics are wrong and changes them for more niche topics, possibly thinking that they are helping…

Well, this is a problem if the topics they add have just one or two followers because you not going to be seen and secondly if no one id following those questions how do you ask for answer requests.

The answer requests are taken from the members who follow the topics you have selected. No followers to the topics no requests no Quora traffic.

Some members will even swap in tags “Quora” or “Adult” and this is a problem not only because they are irrelevant but also damaging if you are in the Quora Partner Program because these types of topics don’t pay so the question no longer earns ad revenues.

How do you deal with Quora Question Vandalising?

9 times out of 10 you can just revert the changes.

But sometimes you come across members who believe they are right and want to fight for their changes.

Changes to the way a title is written can be a big problem and they certainly are for me because I write questions for Google.

The idea is that I try to write question titles that people searching will be typing into Google.

Then hopefully the questions index and show up favourably in Google and are found.

If someone changes the question, adds in another 10 words then it messes up your Quora SEO efforts to get the questions seen in search.

If your a Partner Program member then these question title changes can mean a question that ranks on page one could disappear.

You suddenly find your self in a mad tug of war over the title and topics just like you do when you get caught up with members merging your questions.

When this happens all you can do is to revert the changes and hope the member gets bored and stops.

But often they don’t.

So what is the fix?

Be Patient!

At this point, if you can stomach it just walk away but if you really want to fight here is what you do

Report everything.

Every revert, every title change, every topic switch.

Report so that Quora knows what is going on.

Build of a edit file of everything that is going on.

Then take your evidence and go Quora Support and open a ticket under Contact Us and present your case.

Your first reply will be someone just telling you the correct way to report a problem.

They will tell you to hit report and remind you of the different ways to report.

Follow up by saying something like

Yes, I am sorry, I know that sending in a support ticket is not the way to go when reporting question problems but I have exhausted all the method you have suggested in your reply.

Then you go on and explain the situation again.

Report how it’s continuing etc etc etc.

Remain polite and patient because you want Quora on your side.

And then you really do just have to be patient and have faith that common sense prevails.

Quora Question Vandalising And How To Deal With It – Takeaways

You have to try to remain sane when you find yourself in a Question vandalizing battle.

Your opponent feels they know better than you, that they are better than you.

They have no concept of why you wrote something the way you did, no idea about SEO and how you have structured your content.

But that doesn’t matter to them.

When you factor in the “why are you so bothered” side of it and the “how have you got the time to keep making these changes” and the “have you really not got anything better to do with your time” you have to ask yourself should I just walk away from this or should I fight for the question because you are dealing with a crazy person.

If I am outside of the Partner Program then I would walk away but as a Partner, I would fight for my questions, especially now that I know what to do after reading this article.

Dexter

Wow, this is interesting. I am not overly active on Quora but I have asked and answered some questions. I also have seen question changes where I wondered why the hack that happened or merged questions that kind of killed a question.
But I have never been invested enough into Quora to bother overly much when someone thought he knew better.
However, I learned a ton in the above article that I am going to try out. Like optimizing questions for SEO. I have to check that and try it out!

What you said is quite relevant and I agree with you to a great extent. However, there are millions of users on Quora and you can’t fight with everyone. My point here is, once you have spoken your truth, just sit back and relax. Even if someone moderates the truth, it will eventually comes out in some way.

So what would you do when you have 6 pages of notifications from one member who is vandalising your topics, making bad changes to question title and making dumb merges?

I never knew that your question could be altered, although I knew that quora itself reclassifies questions to group them together sometimes.

I don’t know about you but I do get fed up with some of the questions you get which appear to have no point or sensible answer.

I agree with the point that vandalising the quora question would affect the SEO of the question. If it depends on google search. I am not a part of QPP now. Waiting for the invite from quora.

I must appreciate your responsibility and efforts in making the Quora platform – clutter-free and valuable as always. Since, I’m not a QPP member, I was less bothered about all these. But, reading this article, I understand the impact of content vandalism on quora. Thanks for pitching!
