So What Is A Blog? What Are The Best Blogging Sites?
A blog is an article or group of articles on a site or platform on the internet.
Blogs have been around for about 10 years. The word blog stands for ’web log’ and they’re effectively online diaries. Anyone can set one up, that’s the easy part. Thinking of something interesting to say each time you blog is the tricky part.
Your blog can be on any topic you want. You could write about cats or cars or as I do, money making sites.
WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr …
There are many ways to post a blog. You can post single posts on social sites in their blogging sections. Steemit is a great example of a blogging social built on a blockchain base that ranks well and rewards members. Quora and Medium are also great examples of blogging socials. Or you can use blogging sites such as Blogger and Tumblr. But if you’re serious about making a blog then you need to use WordPress and build your own blogging site.
WordPress is seen as the best blogging platform. You download the WordPress software and upload it to your hosting and you have your very own web space that you can use to post your blog. The vast majority of blogging sites are WordPress.
The WordPress software is free, but you do have to pay for hosting. The advantages of using WordPress are that you are the boss, if you post your blog on Blogger or other blogging sites the content you post is the blog sites and they have the right to remove your hard work if they want if you post on a self-hosted WordPress Blog then your in control. WordPress also has an abundance of extra plugins and widgets that can turn your blog into something really professional and special, as well as plugins that deal with search engine optimization and spam issues. This is why most blogging sites are WordPress based.
There is a plugin that will cover just about anything you want to do on a WordPress blog.
Getting Your Blog Seen
So you have a great blog now but how do you get people to read what you write. Well, firstly you need to know that search engines like good quality content. So do not copy from other blogging sites and post as your own. Copying a huge no-no. By all means, use other people’s blogs as inspiration for your masterpiece. But never copy your content from other blogging sites.
So post good quality well-written content that’s the number one rule, Content Is King!
It also really helps to know a little SEO and just how the search engines work. This is not so important if you have a self-hosted WordPress blog. We established earlier there are SEO plugins that you can use. Just follow the how-to guides when you post and you have an instant advantage over any other blogging sites. Blogger is very similar to WordPress. But Blogger doesn’t have any SEO plugins so you’re at a disadvantage, in fact, they do not have very many plugins at all.But Blogger does have is the backing of Google, so Blogger does tend to rank very well, in fact, better most other blogging sites, but as discussed earlier be very careful make sure you read the Blogger Terms Of Service on what you can post as a Blogger Blog.
Blogging Basic Seo
Search Engine Optimization doesn’t have to be complicated, there are only really a few rules that if used will help.
If your blog is called “Animal Blog” that’s what your homepage will be called. When you post a new article the blog layout needs to be formatted so the new post title comes before the blog title. So if you post an article titled called “Most Popular Cats” your blog title needs to be set up so that it reads “Most Popular Cats – Animal Blog” not “Animal Blog – Most Popular Cats”, the post title should come before the blog title, always. If someone searches “Most Popular Cats” Google will see “Animal Blog” before the “Most Popular Cats” part and so won’t see your post as important as it could.
Your Blog Title also needs to be set up in a structured manner. So you will need to know a little about H TAGS (Heading Tags).
Think of your post as a newspaper article so the headline should be an h1 tag as its the most important and then subheadings h2,h3 and onward’s. This is very easy to do on a blog editor just highlight the title and select the H tag you want to use.
Its a really good idea to upload pictures to your blog and its a must that you name your images, so if your blog title is “Most Popular Cats” and the cat is a “British Blue “then name the image “Most Popular Cats – British Blue” Search engines can read the image title and the alt text info you add to images. This is all extra keyword content. If you do not name your images then they more than like just get given a weird system number name that bares no relevance to your post topic, rendering them useless for SEO.
Social share the articles that you post on your blog and work to get backlinks to your post. Think of backlinks as votes for how good your blog is. If you’re on WordPress you will have a plugin helping you if you are on a different platform the process will probably need to be a bit more manual.
That’s all, for now, hope what I have written helps.
